During those weeks, Larry Riggs noticed some "unsavory characters" kept showing up at Powers' house to meet privately with his father. "They weren't golfers," Larry Riggs says. "I called them shady characters with the kind of flashy suits on and the ties and whatever. They just didn't fit in."

After one of the visits, Larry Riggs confronted his father. "Who are those guys?"

"Friends of mine from Chicago."

BS. dang revisionists are everywhere!

really? have we gone so far back as a society it is now ok to rewrite a well documented highly evidenced by living people event to belittle women again?

It's hard to imagine that Las Vegas actually favored Riggs 2.5 to 1 to beat King, when:
    - Riggs was 55 and King was 29
    - People thought Riggs would lose on purpose for P.R.

It's like betting on Shaq to beat Misty May and Kerri Walsh on the TV show 'Shaq Vs.' Exclamation Shocked

Gail Collins had a little bit to say about this:

Quote:
[Nicholas] Pileggi, one of the world’s great experts on all things Mafia, was offended at the idea that anyone could imagine top mob bosses trotting into a country club and hashing out a long-running plot to fix a tennis match in the pro shop. “The notion of Santo Trafficante and Carlos Marcello appearing together in a public locker room is so outrageous,” he sniffed. “These guys do not meet.

He was heavily favored because of the way he thrashed Margaret Court and because that's where the money was going.
