Posted: 07/17/13 7:09 am ::: Historical Teams and Coaches Register spreadsheet |

One of my side projects over the past few months has been a Historical Teams and Coaches Register. The idea was to create a spreadsheet with multiple tabs, where each tab would correspond to a team and each row would correspond to a season, a coach, and that coach's win loss record.
The effort is finally complete, and I wanted to share the results with anyone that had an interest in such things. A screen capture of one of the pages can be found here.

(Warning: large image.)
All of the teams from the power conferences (as of the end of the 2013 season) are included: these are the ACC, (old) Big East, Big 10, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC.
The entire spreadsheet is about 511 KB. I thought I'd host it on Mediafire. This is the link I've been given; since I've never used Mediafire to share files, I hope that clicking on the link will do everything.

Enjoy it, and if you notice any errors in it or make any additions, all I ask is that you notify me and/or send me the updated spreadsheet. Let me know about any download issues, and if the download link doesn't work, well...I might just e-mail it to you.

Awesome work. There just isn't enough research done on the history of the women's college game.

I just downloaded it and it looks great.
I am very active in Wikipedia, and did some of the AIAW work.
Would like to contact you to see how we can work together. I sent an IM with an email address.

The register has now been updated to reflect results of the 2016-17 seasons.
Changes:
* The West Coast, Summit, Mountain West, Ivy League, Conference USA and Big Sky conferences have been added.
* At the very end of the spreadsheet is a "Season Timelines" tab which expresses every team's post-season history in a glorious technicolor grid.

By coincidence, I was working on updating the Wikipedia article about Wes_Moore:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wes_Moore_(basketball)
when I saw the notice about your update.
Unfortunately, it didn't help with my specific questions although I'm sure it will help with some others, but I thought I'd share the specific issue I'm having in case you've run across good source of information as part of your update process.
The table lists five years at Maryville College but he was there six years.
The list of seasons is missing 1992 – 93, although the records don't line up with the years; the missing record is the 23 – 6 result in 1990 – 91.
That's easy enough to fix by looking at the NCAA records but I want to double check the postseason results.
The editor who worked on this claim that Maryville was part of USA self athletic conference but that's not quite true (they were part of the conference for football but in different years). I haven't tracked down the conference they were in in 1993. (They were part of the Great South Athletic Conference, But that didn't start until 1999.)
The NCAA Division III history page:
http://www.ncaa.com/history/basketball-women/d3
identifies winners and runner-up in each year but I haven't tracked down full brackets.
Any chance you either have access to Division III brackets for those years?

Phil, it appears that in 1989 and 1990 the NCAA Division III tournaments broke the tournament into four-team Regionals for the years you're talking about. There were eight of these regionals for a 32-team tournament. A further complication was that that the two losers of the first round game played in a second game to determine the Region's third-place team.
In 1991, the NCAA Division III tournament moved to four eight-team "Sectionals" - still a 32-team tournament - and appear to have eliminated the Third Place games.
Here's what I'm finding.
1989: Maryville was in the South Regional with Virginia Wesleyan, Centre, and Nazareth.
Game #1: Lost to Nazareth 71-63.
Game #2. Beat Virginia Wesleyan 86-79 in Third Place Game for the South Regional.
1990: Maryville was in the South Regional with Roanoke, Marymount (VA) and Centre.
Game #1: Beat Roanoke 64-62.
Game #2: Lost in South Regional Final (as you would note, a Sweet Sixteen game) to Centre 73-63.
1991: Maryville was one of eight teams in the South Sectional. They won the quarterfinals game against Centre 88-80 and advance to the Round of 16 in a 32-team touranment but then lost to Washington (MO) 73-59.
1992: Maryville was assigned to the Great Lakes Sectional. They lost to Roanoke 73-71 in the First Round. I don't have them going to the "Sweet Sixteen" of the 32-team tournament due to the opening round loss.

The register has now been updated to reflect results of the 2017-18 seasons.
Changes:
* The Horizon, Southern, America East, Missouri Valley, Big West, Patriot, Ohio Valley, Metro Atlantic, WAC, and Atlantic Sun conferences have been added.
* With USC Upstate moving to the Big South (and with the Big South being one of five conferences currently not included), I have left the tab for USC Upstate's historical record as an outlier.
* I am working on the final five conferences, but I have no idea when they will be completed. If I get them completed before the end of the 2018-19 season I'll create a special update.

The register has now been updated to reflect results of the 2018-19 season.
Changes:
* We now have every current NCAA Division I school represented. All conferences are included.
* In addition, Merrimack has been added. Merrimack moves from the Northeast 10 (Division II) to the Northeast Conference in 2019-20.
* Savannah State will move from the MEAC to Division II in 2019-20, but we will maintain a tab for Savannah State for now.
