I love a lot of 80s music. But some of this stuff is exactly why I stopped being a working musician in 1980. Embarassed I literally saw some band on The Tonight Show or Solid Gold, who knows, and the girl singer looked and dressed like our girl singer, the guys in the band looked and dressed like us... up there with spiked hair, skinny ties, shimmying around to the hyper-80s beat... that's when I said I can't be one of those dudes... in my life. Embarassed

I'm ready to do cheesy songs of the 60's whenever you are. Laughing

Not to speak ill of the dead, but it's ironic he would have a song like this. Allegedly he didn't have a problem taking his clothes off, before and after he was diagnosed with HIV and AIDS. Several big names (DL) with the disease, have been tied to him.

From 1983, Will Powers' "Adventures In Success".

"Will Powers" is actually celebrity portrait photographer Lynn Goldsmith.

It was intended to a be a parody of motivational affirmations and self-help videos. I remember at the time that this video was met with positive reviews. But today, it seems like a confirmation of the attitudes that was going to mark the "Yuppies" generation during the mid-1980's.

I'm sure you all remember the 1963 Samhain classic Monster Mash. Bobby "Boris" Pickett milked every thing he could from his one hit, releasing a Christmas version (Monster's Holiday) and other dance versions (Monster Swim, most notably). In 1983, he latched on to the emerging hip hop wave and released this:

It was reported today that the legendary British journalist and interviewer Sir Alan Whicker has passed away at age 87.

I would guess that most Americans know him for his TV show (Whicker's World) being parodied in Monty Python's Flying Circus as "Whicker Island", where all the inhabitants look and talk like Whicker. Cool

So, here's my Cheesy 80's Music Tribute to Sir Alan: the novelty dance song, "Wikka Wrap" by The Evasions! The song actually got some airplay in U.S. R&B/dance music radio stations in the early-1980's.

The song:

Talk about a blast from my past...GH was a true cultural phenomenon in the early 80s. Heck I even planned my college classes so I'd be free by 3PM every afternoon. Laughing

In the mid-1980's, some TV stars (Don Johnson, Bruce Willis, Philip Michael Thomas, etc.) were making records. This was probably the worst of the lot.

A guilty pleasure for me from 1985: "Getcha Back" by The Beach Boys. Cool

The blond in the white dress at the 1:16 mark is Katherine Kelly Lang, just a few years before she was the daytime TV soap opera, The Bold And The Beautiful.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfXeDpgdJqs

Why does part of the melody remind me of Bruce Springsteen's "Hungry Heart" song? Wink

One of numerous acts of the "Minneapolis R&B sound" of the 80's.

Ta Mara & The Seen's "Everybody Dance" (1985):
