4 championships, 17 consecutive seasons. Tina, you ARE the biggest WNBA legend there ever was and probably ever will be. I can't see any other player winning 4 championships and 17 consecutive seasons.
Glad she announced it now so she can have a big send off and final farewell tour.
Legend begins and ends with Tina Thompson!!

man, pilight. i thought by the thread title that tt was retiring 'now'. don't know that i'd blame her given the state of the storm this year.
i like the idea of the storm giving away tix to boys and girls club in wnba cities. classy.

| Really sad to hear that this year will her last especially because its a rebuilding year for the Storm and that she doesnt get a chance to play with Sue and LJ anymore and compete for a championship

I know. She should've left the Storm and signed with a team that's capable of winning a championship this year. With Jones sitting out, I would've loved her in CT and that would've given her a solid chance of winning a 5th.

There's more to a sport than winning a championship.
I don't think we should measure players by how many titles they win, and I don't think it's necessary for Tina Thompson to finish her career with a championship contender to somehow round everything out.
Sure, it's more fun to win than to lose, but it's more fun to play, and though I'm not saying Tina made this choice, for some people it would be more fun to start and play a big role on a team -- a role that allows you to do what you do best -- rather than be put in a role where you spend more of your last season watching than playing.
If Tina stays healthy and has a good season in Seattle, what's wrong with that? Why would it necessarily be better to be with a team that wins more games but only plays her 12 minutes a night?

Because she said she wasn't sure she wanted to even be on this team before the season started and she has said over the last few years that all she wanted was another championship which is why she decided to play for LA and sign with Seattle last year. If she signed with CT I doubt she would only be playing 12 minutes a game. She'd be the starting power forward.

Well at least with the Storm she can add lots to her incredible point total as one of our primary offensive weapons (not sure how much this record matters to her), and I'm sure she's having a good influence on our younger players.

| Sad to hear she is retiring, it's been great watching her the last 16 years, especially in a Sparks uniform for 3 years. But I'll always remember her in a Comets uniform hitting those long rainbow threes then punching her hand in the air holding up 3 fingers.

Had to come to an end eventually of course, but I'm kinda sad it turned out to be this year with the way things turned out for Seattle.
It's great for the fans that she has announced it this early though.

REALLY hope so. There is no reason for her to play out the season on the Storm other than for financial reasons. Storm just do her a favor and trade her to contender.
If they used their noodle, they would realize they are a year away from being a factor again.
