When it comes 70's cheesy tunes, Barry Manilow wrote the book on it!

And here's one of his cheesiest...and most popular!

While attending George Washington High School (in San Francisco) during the 1973-74 academic year, the entire student body was invited to a presentation by a group I had never heard of before. But the song stuck out with me, mainly because of the reactions of the other students, when the singer sang out the tune's title phrase. The students yelled out, "Black!", or "Yellow!", or "Brown!", or "White!".

And since I had to suffer through this song, you will have to do likewise! But I suspect Pilight might actually enjoy this! Wink

This week's featured song: "Undercover Angel" by Alan O'Day

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5iktsjcMCA

He also wrote hit songs for Helen Reddy and The Righteous Brothers, and for Jim Henson's "Muppet Babies" series.

O'Day is still in the music business...

Lawrence Welk, clueless or slyly subversive? You make the call...

As Lawrence Welk would say...."Wunnerful, wunnerful!" Razz

You'll note that Welk refers the song as a "modern spiritual" afterwards! I guess he had no idea what "toke" actually meant in the context of the song! Very Happy

Sorry that I'm day late, but here's another cheesy disco song from that time period.

But there's real talent behind this song. It's "Instant Replay", by Dan Hartman. The bass player is G.E. Smith, who was then an in-demand session musician and later played for Hall & Oates in the early-1980's and went on to become the bandleader for "Saturday Night Live" in the latter half of the 80's, and into the early-1990's. (He was also Gilda Radner's first husband)

The guitarist in the green shirt is Vincent Cusano, who was also another studio session guitarist, but later became better known as hard-rock guitarist Vinnie Vincent, and joined KISS for a time in the 1980's and with his own band, The Vinnie Vincent Invasion. But it's hard to picture him playing disco! Shocked

Don't forget Dan Hartman played with the Edgar Winter Group.

OK. Good idea, and I'll create another thread for Cheesy 80's Songs later.

But not before I give you this...

I don't even know who sings this, and I never heard of this one before. But this has to be seen to be believed! Surprised
