The Connecticut Sun announced today that the team has signed center Laura Summerton of Australia to a training camp contract.

Played for the Adelaide team in Oz and averaged around 18 ppg. I have only heard good things about her.

Keegs will fill you in, for sure. I am thinking she is not a bad shot if you couldn't get Snell.

There is a bit of discussion about Laura in this previous thread:
Another Aussie to the WNBA?

[Edit] BTW I noticed that the article refers to her as a 6'2 center. She plays that spot here in the height-deficient WNBL, but really she is more of a PF (with an element of SF in her game)
I can't see her ever playing C in the WNBA. She is a very slight build.

Centre is a huge stretch. She couldn't lead her WNBL team in rebounding: she was outrebounded by the two guards! She's a 3/4.

She has to get tougher but I think she has the talent to stick onto the end of a bench. Either way, it will be good for her development which has stagnated a bit the last couple of years.

LAURA Summerton is not considering her signing with Eastern Conference champion Connecticut Sun as her shot at a WNBA career.

Instead the Adelaide Lightning's 2005 MVP and Athens Olympic silver medallist is viewing it more as a "toe in the water" of the U.S. professional league.

"There's no guarantees," she said yesterday of her trial next month for a crack at a spot on the Sun roster.

"I know they've obviously got players in my position. It's more a matter of me going over and seeing how I go."
