This is the Civil Wars debute @ grande ole opry.
Where to start? First, they never claimed to be country (Barton Hollow is one of the best songs in a decade)
Anyway, this is one of the biggest debutes in the history of Grand Ole Opry.

Just because your girl, Ms. Swift, pointed me in this direction via twitter.
Taylor Swift @taylorswift13
1) Hanson covered 'We Are Never Getting Back Together'. 2) I didn't just watch the video of it 8 times in a row. 3) #2 might be a lie

I have no idea how I missed this:
This girl did the BGT thing when she was 12. She has one of the most amazing voices I have heard for a female, in my life.
This link is her doing something clever, she actually puts words to the Blue Danube.

Folks just Google and listen.
The only thing and perhaps the best part, I can't find a single clip where this kid let's her voice go off. No "Star Search or American Idol crescendo" moments here, if you find one, please advise. |

I saw the video but I just can't get past Hanson's Mmmmbop, whatever. It is a complete mess of a song with no underlying point at all, IMO. Even if it sounds good to some then it is still just pleasant sounding noise to me.
I love the sound of a mountain spring rushing down a hill, or the birds chirping on a dead still morning but I don't have any of those on CD either |

I really like that band, kind of grew up with them too. I think, you have to consider they wrote that song when the youngest member was 6. (So made up words aren't a shocker ) but also they grew up listening to "doo wop" records. So it really wasn't that shocking that they made up the word.
But it actually is a pretty dark song, particularly coming from a group of kids. It's about how most of the people in your life aren't going to be there for you when you need them, and mmmbop is "moment/flash in time"
But I agree with you, that I think that song was both a blessing and curse for them. Which is a shame, because they have some truly beautiful songs.

Taylor (Swift) always said she wanted to do a duet with them (well Taylor Hanson). I'm not sure how that would sound. Taylor and Taylor have a similar quality to their voice, I hate to call it "whiny" but..that's kind of what I'm gonna have to call it.

Although "Temporary Home" is a beautiful song, I really think "Blown Away" is the best song Carrie has put out. I haven't gotten her album yet, but I really like "Good Girl" too.
Funny enough, although I like Underwood, she's not even close to my favorite Idol contestant. In fact, she's third or fourth of my favorite Country contestant from that show. (Behind Lauren, Scotty, Kellie Pickler...and perhaps Skylar Laine) Although none of them can touch Carrie's voice.
Skylar..she spent the whole season reminding me of Reba. And then she performed with her..cracked me up. They look like mother and daughter.

Well, being a Christian, and believing that Jesus can save those who can't save themselves, I'd take Jesus Takes the Wheel. But also being a fellow Okie, Blown Away is a great song. |

Well it's Monday, and Sandy, so decided to post one of my favorite comedy bits.
This is Johnathan Winters roasting Frank Sinatra, he plays a character as Frank's tour bus or car driver. I like Winters because he plays characters rather than demean himself or others and no foul language.

Pink's performance of "Try" at the AMA's on Sunday was simply stunning!!

I really don't think any other artist today could even come close to doing that. That performance, plus her "Glitter" performance at the 2010 Grammys, are tops in any live performance I've ever seen.

This is the oldest existing film with a close up. It's of a cat. Which proves yet again that there's nothing new under the sun, not even video of cute cats

I think that it was her rocking the kitty that made it sick!! It kind of made me nauseous watching it!

Okay this is nuts.
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ZwTroXPxsec" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Without a doubt my favorite thing right now on YouTube is (once again) watching bass covers.
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/eygLrcHEzRk" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Of course the all-time champion of bass covers is this young lady's perfectly irresistible rendering of the bass part from Patrice Rushen's Forget Me Nots.
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/iRusbYIyRNI" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I also like instrument and amp and pickups and effects pedals demos. Just a sample from my favs pile. This little new 'reissue' amp is unique and offers such a great quite classy vintage tone for recording. Guy plays really nice.
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/rffnidknmD0" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I hope I haven't posted some of these earlier in this thread. Here's a classic from the Newport Jazz Festival circa late 50s.
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/DcMmVGrzpy8" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>
And something funny. Bad video. Great standup.
