Who needs depth when we have Candice and you don't? Wink

Great mental strength shown by the team in their comeback. The turnover differential between the two teams is amazing. The Card have to improve their horrendous rebounding though and I'm hoping Newlin will be up to speed soon.

I am aware the game was yesterday but since nobody was talking about it...

Thanks Keegan, I was at the game and meant to start a thread, but got busy last night.

I really thought Az St had the game -- their rebounding and ball movement were much better than Stanford's. Their defense was better too, at least in the first half. They also have a 3-point shooter who was incredible (Noe?). They were the most physical team I've seen all year (and by "physical" I mean they FOUL HARD AND OFTEN!). All in all, they are no joke, despite the back-to-back road losses.

You called it, Stanford's individual talent allowed them to escape with the W. In addition to Wiggins, who is All That, I was really impressed with the freshmen, Gold-Onwude and Harmon. Both of those players made key plays that changed the momentum of the game.

All in all, Brooke Smith hit the deck a few times, Coach Charli almost got T'd up, and a good time was had by all.

Jill Noe is great. I saw her down here a couple of years ago and was the only player to really take it to my WNBL team when they played (as a point of reference, I think she scored about 20. Belinda Snell scored about 30. Arizona State got thumped by about 30-40 points)

I think ASU will get payback in Tempe. They're a good team but have sunk into a bit of a form slump. I think Charli's a bit of an up and down coach and her subbing patterns can make it hard for players to find their rhythm.

At least a couple times during the game she subbed all 5 players at once.

Jill didn't even start the game, don't know if here left wrist is still bothering her.

I think the big improvement for ASU in the game was that Emily Westerberg broke
out of her slump and was hitting her shots. Maybe it was the luck sweatshirt
she was wearing under her jersey. Haven't heard what the story was on that
yet, as it was the first game she has worn it. She she also picked up the flagrant.

But other than that foul, it was in the words of VanDerveer, "a tournament game,
smash-mouth basketball.

Impressive that Stanford could keep pace and steal the iniative with just 7
players. Not sure if Wiggens even left the game. ASU isn't used to teams having
as much steam late in the game. Stanford's easy win over Arizona allowed for
their players to be a bit more rested coming into the game.

Pretty common. At home that will usually invoke a "Let's go Cyotes" for the
local NHL team. The fun thing about going to road games, is seen how the
local PA announcer tries to deal with it. At the UCLA, once the guy threw in
the town and simple said "Another line change for ASU"

I've heard Charli take responsibility for the sub pattern not allow players to
get into the flow in past post game comments. But that certainly wasn't the
case in this game. And they were cleaning up on the offensive boards early
in the game which made sure there weren't a lot of one shot possesions.

Westerberg was good, but she did score 16 of her 20 in the first half.

Maybe I should have instead said, as an ASU fan, Westerberg's performance
was encouraging. When your all Pac-10 player has been having shooting
nights of 2-of-10, 3-of-14, and 4-of-12, a 50%+ night is a welcome sight.

And I'm happy to have the points in the first half. One of ASU big problems
with road games this year is coming out cold and digging a nice big hole
to climb out of. Down 17-6 v USD, down 25-9 v Cal.

ASU outside shooting was so cold that teams could just camp in the paint,
keep the ball away from Kovesdy (Pac 10 FG% leaders), and grab all the
offensive boards.

she did that quite a bit when they were in town playing USC. shocked me because she even took out her hot player for a cold sub.

CTT focus is defense, and most likely saw it as taking out a defender showing
some fatigue or losing some battle and replacing them with someone more
rested. Takes a while to get use to watching. Otherwise, it can seem like, hey
you just scored, you're coming out.
