Following an uplifting victory over Kansas on January 10 Colorado hit the road for two games at Kansas State and Missouri. Both games resulted in double digit losses as the Buffs appeared to revert to the same problems that have plagued them for much of the season: mental letdowns that have led to frequent turnovers making it too easy for their opponents to score.
In CU’s 66-85 loss to KSU the two teams were even for the first 10 minutes before the Wildcats were able to put together a 56 point first half. Unlike the victory over Kansas where the Buffs committed a mere 10 turnovers they would commit 25 at KSU.
CU next went to Missouri where they faced an experienced Tiger team who has its sights set on the NCAA tourney. Although CU would cut down on the turnovers they would get pummeled on the boards with the result that they would again loss in double figures, 49-69.
Colorado is making a transition to a spread offense and it seems that they still have some kinks to work out. Although it seemed to work well in the Kansas win they turnovers indicate that they are still needed experience and confidense.
Colorado has two game home stand with Iowa State on Saturday night and Texas A&M on Tuesday night.
