If you can't have the Osmonds (the 70's version), you might have to settle for an imitation of them...

Seriously, Meri Wilson wins hands down. I had never heard it and could have gone the rest of my life without doing so. Good job, Pilight. Smile

I went to see the dead kennedys when I was in college. It was a free concert.

So that's probably where the creators of the TV show "Glee" got their inspiration! Razz

I have Meri Wilson's "Telephone Man" on one of Rhino Records' 'Have A Nice Day: Super Hits of the 70's' compilations. According to the liner notes, that song made the Top-40 charts on the same week that Elvis Presley died. And it concluded, "now we know what really killed him." Razz

This has been a bad time for "old school R&B" acts in the last few days!

Earlier this morning, Etta James passed away. And Johnny Otis of "Willie And The Hand Jive" fame also died.

Another one, Jimmy Castor, also passed away. And to commemorate his passing, I offer you his demented song from the early-1970's...

"She said, 'I'll sock it to ya, daddy!'" Very Happy

"Her name was Bertha...Bertha Butt...She's one of them Butt Sisters!" Cool

Yes, this was an actual hit record...

Pretty sure that's from the 80's, but still plenty cheesy

Now you've done it. I'll have this stuck in my head now until I find a way to get it out.

ETA: I didn't even get to listen to it, just looking at the title did it.

Of course nearly anything by Tony Orlando would qualify...

You probably never heard of this original version by Jackie DeShannon. And it was nowhere near as popular as Kim Carnes' mega-hit cover in 1981.

I have almost every one of these songs on my ipod I'm proud to say as a teenager of the 70s. That includes Bertha Butt Boogie, Life is a Rock, Clap for the Wolfman, and My Girl Bill.

Lemme know when you find a video for "Wham Bam Shang-a-Lang" by Silver!
