| very close game, how can you only beat GA TECH by 9 but beat MARYLAND who is a better team than GA TECH on paper by 18?

Maybe Duke didn't play well tonight. Maybe Georgia Tech played really well. I don't think it's inscrutable. |

I've always thought that somehow finding a way to gut one out on the road when you're playing your "C" or "D" game and a geeked-up home team smells an upset is just as impressive as blowing someone out. I didn't see or hear the Duke-Tech game but maybe that was the case tonight.

| I doubt the Dukies are too worried. They know better than most how irrelevant one bad game is. They dropped an early game to Toledo a couple of years ago and ended the season in the Final Four.

| I think it's natural for a team like Duke to have a little letdown in the game after demolishing a top 10 rival.

It's called Georgia Tech has one of the best defenses in the ACC and Duke wasn't ready for the pressure it'd face tonight. Duke, however, overcame the defensive pressure and won the ballgame. Let's not make excuses for Duke without failing to realize just how strong the rest of the ACC plays.
There are NO easy wins in the ACC!

That's why you can't always compare teams that have played common opponets...Just because team A beat team B by more points than team C did doesn't mean that team A will beat C...

I don't think coaches overlook teams (on purpose), but the media does have a tendency to do just that. For instance, Debbie Antonelli and Beth Mowins seem to forget that NC State has a game to play before they play UNC at home.
