Conferences with multiple bids

ACC 8
BEast 7
B12 6
P10 5
SEC 5
B10 4
A10 3
MWC 3

Just missed: Villanova, Nebraska, Kansas, USC

How did I arrive at this?

Each team receives points for wins:
8 for a win over a top 25 RPI team, 5 for a 26-50, 3 for a 51-100, 2 for a 101-200, 1 for a sub-200, 0 for a non-DI

Then subtract for losses:
1 for a loss to a top 25 RPI team, 2 for a 26-50, 3 for a 51-100, 5 for a 101-200, 8 for a sub-200, 13 for a non-DI

Then subtract the team's RPI rank and half of its conference RPI rank

Let's do an example....

Maryland has one win over top 25 for 8, one over 26-50 for 5, one over 51-100 for 3, four over 101-200 for 8, and seven over sub-200 for 7.
That makes 31.
The Terps two losses were both to top 25s, so that's -2 to make 29
They have an RPI of 24, so 29 - 24 = 5 and the ACC is #1 in CRPI so we subtract .5 to make a grand total of 4.5.
In comparison, the weakest #1 seed, North Carolina, has a grand total of 44.5. The last team in, Texas A&M, has a grand total of -35

The team RPI penalty is capped at 100. That should only affect the automatic bid teams in the 12-16 seed range.
The lowest RPI team to get an at large this time is Texas A&M at #53.

In the event of a tie, the total before any RPI modification is used.
If still tied, the total with the team RPI modifier but not the CRPI modifier is used.

Many teams got moved across brackets at the same seed to avoid facing conference opponents too early in the tournament.
Occasionally teams may need to be moved up or down one seed for the same purpose, this projection has only one such change.
Wyoming got bumped down from a #11 to a #12 and Florida State got moved up from #12 to #11.

"Through 1/8/6" means INCLUDING games that Sunday? I'm a bit surprised that Arizona State is still so high after losing to USC on the 6th and UCLA on the 8th. Nice to see Washington getting some props, though.

A few others names are surprising as well. But much of this will be sorted out as ranked teams play each other.

Arizona State still has three top 25 wins. Only Tennessee and LSU have more and only North Carolina and Michigan State can match that. That's a bit inflated, Western Kentucky is top 25 in RPI now but probably won't be by the end of the season.
